Arlo. Main Street, Burley in Wharfedale.

Good food, good coffee, and somewhere worth sitting down — open most days from nine.

Arlo sits on Main Street in Burley in Wharfedale, a few doors down from the post office and across from the kind of village that still knows its neighbours. It opened to be the place the village was missing — somewhere to have breakfast without rushing it, to meet a friend, to work quietly through a second coffee.

Everything on the menu is cooked when you order it. The scrambled eggs have been called the best in the LS and BD postcodes by more than one person who has clearly done the research. The BLT stopped a reviewer mid-sentence. The nourish bowl is light, fresh, and notably free of beetroot — which, for some, is recommendation enough.

The room helps. There is good natural light, space for dogs, and seats outside when the weather earns it. People tend to stay longer than they planned, which is either a sign that the coffee is good or that leaving is harder than it should be. Both things are probably true.

On the menu

  1. Scrambled eggs Best in the LS and BD postcodes, bar none — reviewers keep saying it, unprompted, twice. Cooked to order, every single time.
  2. The BLT Might just look like a sandwich. The flavours and freshness of the ingredients are spot on — one of the best a reviewer says they've eaten.
  3. Nourish bowl Light, fresh, and — reviewers note with approval — no beetroot in sight. Cooked to order, same as everything else.
  4. Cakes Very delicious, beautifully decorated — the rhubarb cake is proof enough on its own. A whole pre-sliced cake topped with cream rosettes, poached rhubarb, and freeze-dried berry dust.
  5. Brioche burger Fried chicken, slaw, and a bun that holds its own — part of the wider menu beyond breakfast.

Why choose us

01 Cooked when you order

Nothing sits waiting. Every dish comes from the kitchen fresh — which is why the scrambled eggs taste the way they do, and why regulars keep coming back for them.

02 A room that belongs here

Reviewers reach for the word 'village' unprompted — not as an address, but as a feeling. Arlo has been part of this street long enough to have earned that.

03 Somewhere to stay a while

Dog-friendly, unhurried, and set up for a long morning rather than a quick turnaround. The kind of place that makes the journey from Ilkley or Otley feel worthwhile.

"Both the interior design and the edibles are beautifully decorated and equally matched in taste. What a fine asset to the village."
